Romeo and Juliet, Act Two

Act One finished with Romeo and Juliet knowing that they were in love with each other when they should have hated each other. Act Two, Scene One opens with Romeo climbing over the wall that guards the Capulet’s house. He is hoping that he can find Juliet. Benvolio and Mercutio are looking for Romeo for he had left them without sayings were he was going. Benvolio saw Romeo climb the wall and knows that he is near, so he asks Mercutio to call for Romeo. Mercutio replies using Rosaline features as a way to provoke Romeo, after talking about how much passion Romeo seems to devote to love. (Remember Mercutio and Benvolio do not know that Romeo is now in love Juliet, not with Rosaline) Benvolio cautions Mercutio not to anger Romeo. Mercutio replies saying that if he suggests any one but Romeo to be with Rosaline would anger him. Benvolio says that Romeo is hiding from them because he is in a dark mood and they should just leave him be. Mercutio continues to joke about Romeo but in the end Benvolio encourages him to leave, which they do. That is how the scene comes to an end.
Act two, Scene Two opens with Romeo talking about Mercutio does not deserve to joke about love. The Romeo interrupts his own rant when he sees Juliet in her balcony. He begins to talk about how beautiful Juliet is and wonders aloud whether or not he should approach her. Juliet is not aware that Romeo is listening to her so she talks about how much she likes him. (For if she knew he was there she never would have said anything. She would have gone on to play the flirting game.) She also mentions that she wishes that Romeo was not a Montague, she tells her self that even with out his name he would still be the same person. After a while of Juliet taking to herself Romeo interrupts her to tell her that his name no longer has to be Romeo. The two begin to make small talk as Juliet ask Romeo how he got over the gate and if he was worried of being caught. Romeo responds saying that his love for her will protect him. Juliet worries aloud to Romeo that she thinks that they are moving way too fast. She tells him that she would not be this forward with him if he had not heard her talking to herself. She asks him if his love is true. He tries to give her poetic answers. She wants none of it. The Nurse calls for Juliet and Juliet ask Romeo to wait for her. When she comes back she tells Romeo that if he really loves her he would marry her. After a few times of him trying to leave and her calling him back, he tells her that he will send for her tomorrow. Romeo wishes Juliet goodnight as the scene ends.
Scene Three is set in a monastery. Friar Laurence is talking of how night turns to day. Then he talks about herbs and about how they can do both good and bad. Then he goes on to compare herbs to people and how the two both have good and bad in them. Romeo enters then and says good morning.  Friar Laurence asks Romeo why he is up so early then he realizes that Romeo looks as if he has not slept at all. Romeo admits to the fact that he did not sleep but denies Friar Laurence’s accusation of him spending the night with Rosaline. He even tells Friar Laurence that he is no longer in love with Rosaline. Romeo explains to Friar Laurence of how he met Juliet and that he would now like to marry her. Friar Laurence hears of this and worries that the two are moving way to fast. He feels that this love is not strong but in the end he agrees in hopes that this will draw the two families together. That is the end of the scene.
In Scene Four Mercutio and Benvolio is wondering where Romeo is. (They don’t know about Juliet.)  Benvolio knows that Romeo did not return home last night. Mercutio thinks he spent the night with Rosaline. Benvolio tells Mercutio that Romeo received a letter from Tybalt challenging him to duel. Mercutio says that Romeo will say yes to challenge as long as he is not a wimp. The two joke back and forth on what a wimp Tybalt is. Then Romeo arrives and his friends ask him what he had to do that was better then hanging out with them. Romeo does not tell them where he was. Mercutio and Romeo get way off topic and begin to joke back and forth until Nurse arrives with Peter.  Mercutio makes fun of Nurse. This makes Nurse angry. Much to Romeo’s dismay all she wants to talk  about is how wrongly she just was treated. Romeo tells Nurse to tell Juliet that she is to meet him at Friar Laurence’s cell that afternoon.  Nurse reminds Romeo that he must act as a gentleman towards Juliet. On that note the scene ends.
Scene Five is Juliet waiting for Nurse to arrive so she can hear the message from Romeo.  Juliet talks aloud to herself about how anguish she is to hear from Nurse and how lovers should be telepathic. When Nurse arrives all she does is complain about how old and tired she is. So you have Juliet bugging Nurse for her answer and Nurse complaining about how old she is. (Nurse is teasing Juliet.)  After Nurse is though teasing as Juliet, she tells her to go to Friar Lawrence’s cell for her wedding with Romeo. Juliet gets ready to prepare herself for the wedding as the scene ends.
Scene Six is the wedding. The two Lovers exchange word on how much they love each other, while Friar Lawrence reminds the two to take it slow. Act Two ends with Friar Lawrence getting ready to marry them. Romeo and Juliet believe that these events are in their favor. Friar Lawrence believes that the two families have finally been united. Little do they know that the day still has challenges that are yet to come.

Romeo and Juliet - Act One

The Romeo and Juliet play is about love and discord in Verona: Mantua, Italy. All cities have love and discord in them, you say, so what makes this plot so special? Well the discord is stirred up between two of the most riches families in the city, so everyone becomes involved. The love is between the children of these two families. Act One, Scene One opens showing us of this discord. Sampson and Gregory, both, whom are servants from the Capulet household, are talking about how much they despise the Montagues and what they would do if they happen to spot one. When who should show up, but a servant from the Montague household, Abram. Abram becomes offended when Sampson bits his thumb at him. Sampson denies that the thumb was not bitten at him as not to get in trouble with the law, although Abram does not believe him. The Sampson and Abram draw their swords and the two begin to fight. Now I know what you are thinking. They are fighting over the fact that one bit his thumb. That’s right. That’s how far the two households have gone. They fight over everything. Even though it is only Sunday morning.
Benvolio, a cousin in the Capulet household, has arrived on stage shortly before the outbreak. Seeing the two fighting servants he run over to break up the fight with his sword drawn, then Tybalt enters and seeing all the sword drawn runs over and begins to fight with Benvolio. Even though Benvolio explains that the only reason he had his sword drawn, was to break-up the fight that was between the two servants. Other members of the two households join the fight. Some peace officers arrive to try to break-up the fight, as well as citizens who wish for both sides to just kill each other off. (They are very tried of having their mornings interrupted by fighting.)   Then Capulet and Lady Capulet enter. Capulet is ready to join the fight, but Lady Capulet is holding him back reminding him that he is an old man and not fit to fight. Montague and Lady Montague arrive in a similar manner. At this point the only one who can who can break up this fight is the Prince himself, so he does. He speaks words of shame to both households and asked Capulet to talk with him that morning and Montague that afternoon.
Now all have left the stage but Montague, Lady Montague, and Benvolio. Montague asked Benvolio what he knows of how the fight started, so Benvolio tell him what he saw. After receiving the information, Capulet goes on to wonder what has been troubling his son Romeo. The Capulet parents are worried about Romeo so much because he has been very withdrawn lately. None of the three have any idea, but when Romeo enter the scene, Benvolio encourages his aunt and uncle to leave so he can see if he can learn what is wrong with Romeo.
So Benvolio talks with Romeo and learns that Romeo is so depressed because Rosaline, his current girlfriend, is not responding to Romeo’s affections. Now Benvolio is a down to earth kind of dude and thinks Romeo is crazy to woe so much over this girl. He thinks he should just dump her and find another girl that can please him better.
Scene Two opens with Capulet and Count Paris (a young nobleman) talking about whether or not Juliet has reached the age where she should marry Paris. Paris is ready to marry Juliet but Capulet is hesitant to marry off his only child. He brings up the fact that Juliet will be fourteen years old in a couple weeks, while Paris points out that girls younger the she already have children. In the end Capulet decides to throw a party and if Paris can not find a more beautiful girl at that party than he can marry Juilet. So he sends a servant out with a list of names to all those who should be invited to this party.
This servant is unable to read. (This was quite normal for those days) So to fillful his master order he must find someone who can read. He sees Romeo and Benvolio, who are yet again discussing Romeo’s love life, and ask them if they can read. After much joking around Romeo reads the list to the servant. Now the servant does not know that Benvolio and Romeo are Montugues so he tells them when and where the party will be. ( If the servant did know who they were he probably would have never talked to them in the first place.) Benvolio suggest that they join the party and see if they can find a girl there that is pettier than Rosalina.
Scene Three begins with Lady Capulet asking the Nurse to call Juliet to her. Lady Capulet is nervous about talking to her daughter because the two do not talk much. So she asked the Nurse to stay with them since she was the one who raised Juliet. That ends up being a mistake since the Nurse can not seem to shut up and goes on to tell all these embarrassing stories from Juliet’s childhood. After the Capulet ladies gets the Nurse to shut up Lady Capulet asked Juliet how she feels about marriage. Juliet admits that she has not given marriage much thought. Lady Capulet tries to get Juliet warmed up to the idea by telling her that Paris would like her to marry him as well as all the good things that come with marriage. The ladies talk until a servingman interrupts them and tells them that the guests for the party are already downstairs and the ladies are to join the party.
Scene Four is more about Romeo and his friends. Romeo is not fond of the idea of going to this party and dancing. He claims that his soul is made of lead and he is not ready to wear dancing shoes. The though of dancing when love is being unkind, does not appeal to him. He puts out the idea that he would be willing to stand to the side and bear the touch as to shed light for the dancers. This night has Romeo worried because the night before he has a dream that this night would be the start of several misfortunate events leading to his death although all he tells his friends was that he had a dream. Mercutio, a friend to Romeo, tells him that he should not pay attention to such dreams. He even tells Romeo a story of a fairy, Queen Mab, who messes with mortals dreams as entertainment. Eventually Romeo interrupts Mercutio’s story. Romeo tell him that his dream about. His friends ignore him and Benvolio urges them to hurry.
So we move on to Scene Five and the party. This scene opens with the servants rushing to prepare for the party and Capulet acting as a good host by greeting his guests. AND then, Ladies and Gentlemen, the moment you have all been waiting for is here, Romeo sees Juliet.  And it’s love at first sight. Romeo start’s talking to himself about how beautiful she is. Tybalt overhears Romeo’s monologue and recognizes Romeo Montague’s voice. And not Tybalt is ready to fight. Capulet sees him getting ready and intervenes. Capulet tells Tybalt that tonight is not the time and they will welcome Romeo and his friends with open arms.
Then the scene goes from the focus of Capulet and Tybalt, to Romeo and Juliet.   Romeo is speaking in a lovers rhyme trying to show Juliet how much he loves her. She is impressed and speaks the same language back to him because she likes him as well. They share two kisses before Nurse comes along and interrupts them. Nurse tells Juliet that her mother wishes to see her. After Juliet leaves to talk with her mother, Romeo asked Nurse who Juliet was. (Remember Romeo does not know Juliet’s name.) So the Nurse tells him that she is Juliet Capulet. Romeo is surprised to hear that this wonderful girl he just met is part of the family he is to hate. Benvolio comes along to tell Romeo to leave before they anger someone. Capulet overhears and tells them that they are welcomed. Then all begin to exit except for Nurse and Juliet. As they leave Juliet asked Nurse to name the guest as to learn the name of the one whom she was dancing with. When she finds out that he is Romeo Montague she freaks. For she knows that she is hopeless in love with the one that should be her enemy. And that is how Act One ends.

Frist Impressions

It goes like this ... Don't judge others based on your first impression but you should do your best to make a good first impression.

Am I the only one that thinks that this statement sends very many mixed signals?

Why Not

Why now
Why not tomorrow
It will still be there
Why now

Why not now
Why not today
We are still aging
Tomorrow we can
do something better

Friday, May 20, 2011

In honor of the fact that everyone seems to think that we are all going to die tomorrow....

Live

Does anyone know?
What will happen tomorrow?
Who we will meet?
What we will see?
What we will do?
I know I don’t
That is way we should
Way we need to
Live each day to the fullest
And come what may

What day were you born on?

Monday's child is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace,
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go,
Friday's child is loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for his living,
And the child that is born on the Sabbath day
Is bonny and blithe, and good and gay (happy).

This is an old nursey ryhme that was used to teach children the days of the week and predict a child's personality. I have yet to do a survey to figure out how true this rhyme is but who knows maybe it's spot on. For more information - google it.

P.S. I was born on Friday.

Love

In the Greek language there is four different words that all mean love. Each word have its own entity for example Eros is sexual disire, while Phila is more brotherly love. (Think Philadephia) Some of my descriptions are not exact so for more clarafication google it.
 I have met a man
I love him
For him
He loves me
For me
We love each other
Always
Eros

I love my Mother
She is ready to listen
I love my Father
He is ready to tease
I love my Brother
He is my playmate
I love my Sister
She is can be wise
I love my family
Storge

I love that old lady
So I will help her across the street
I love that two-year-old
So I will pick up his bottle
I love that young man
So I will open the door
I love everyone
So I will help where I am needed
Philia

I will learn
Nothing can stop me
I will gain wisdom
Though out time
To love others
No matter what
To put others before myself
No matter what

Earth Turns

The sun does not rise mor set.

It is true that the sun does not set or rise. I know a little part in the back of your mind your going - Duh you nincompoop  the sun does rise and set. Go look out your window. (and those smarticles out there are going how do know what I'm thinking? Or am I the only one who does that.) Well yes two times a day you can look to the skies and see lots of pretty colors but the sun doesn’t move the Earth does.

It's true and you know that. The Earth rotates around the sun, the sun does not rotate around the Earth. I know that this is like a no duh moment and why don't you just let it go but it really bugs me to no end.

So I guess one should really say when they see a colorful sky is  "Wow look at that colorful Earth turning." or something like that.

Oh well I have a feeling that people are still going to say sunrise and sunset but I will not.

A Story

“Aunt Jemima and Her Pancake Toppings”
“Aunt Jemima, do you think you could make the pancakes sweeter?” questions Aunt Jemima’s six year old nephew named Luke.
“Yes,” says Matt, Luke’s seven year old brother, “Just add more sugar.”
“I can not just put three cups of sugar in that would just ruin the pancake,” laughed Aunt Jemima.
“We tried that before when we were girls,” Amy, Luke’s mother, tells him, “Grandma said that we ruined the pancakes and you have to agree with her.”
“Clear your places boys and go help your father and older bothers with the animals” Aunt Jemima orders the boys.
“Listen to your Aunt Jemima, boys. Five boys helping your father rather than three would get things done a lot faster.”  Amy agrees with her younger sister.
“Yes Ma’am!” yell the boys as they run outside.
“I’m going to go out and collect some firewood if that is fine with you,” Aunt Jemima tells Amy as she puts her jacket on.
“While you do that I will do the dishes,” compromises Amy.
Aunt Jemima walks along the maple trees picking up their dead branches to use as fire wood.  She thinks about Luke’s and Matt’s wish to have sweeter pancakes. Well I could put butter on it but we do not have enough. The little we have must be used sparingly. Jam would be an answer. Then we run into the problem that Luke is allergic to strawberries  and Matt blueberries. We could have pumpkin jam but there is not enough pumpkin to make jam.
As she is walking and thinking and not quite paying attention she trips over a root.  While falling she grabs a low maple tree branch.
            “Ouch,” Aunt Jemima cries.
As she stands back up she notices where the branch snapped of there was a liquid substance. She reaches out to touch it and realizes that is sticky. A chipmunk appears and scoops a bit away and begins to lick it off his paw. Alright if chipmunks can eat it maybe it is safe for humans too. Aunt Jemima carefully licks her finger. The sweet sensation fills her. She runs back to the house with the firewood, drops it off at the front door, goes to the shed grabs the bucket and a nail.

Fifteen Years Later
Aunt Jemima sits down with her sister’s family while they all eat breakfast together. The table is filled with food such as oatmeal, bacon, sausage, grits, eggs, and pancakes with syrup. Ever since that day Aunt Jemima found the tree sap. Amy’s family had gone out and collected the sap to use as syrup for the pancakes. Now twenty two year old Luke and twenty three year old Matt have been selling the syrup using their aunt, Aunt Jemima, as the name. The End.

See even I can write a fable.

Choices

What’s wrong
What’s right
Is not always clear
Is not always black and white

What’s right to you
What’s right to her
What’s right to him
Is not always the same

We live by our morals
And those we love
Those we admire
Those we trust

In the end we must trust ourselves
To make the right choice and live with it
With our choices
Of what would be gray

Gory/ Suspense Movies

I DO NOT like to watch gory movies.  Blood, guts, and such is so not my scene. I mean really - how many people can you watch get shot at, stabbed, etc in an two hour movie? The whole thing is emotionally  exhausting. And its not just that sights. It’s the sounds too. The consent guns shots and the cannon kabooms are just way too much. I find myself flinching though out the whole movie.

And don't even get me started on suspenseful  movies. Everyone is pulling out a gun (again with the guns!), there are crazy people, and lots of scary music. Again not good for my  nerves. See when I watch a suspenseful movie I have to hold someone's hand to hold. Not only hand but a blanket, pillow, coat, etc, to hide under when the movie becomes to intense.

I rather watch my romance comedies and Disney movies any day thank you very much.

So NOT A Morning Person

I am not a morning person at all. My hair's messy, and my mode is set to an ulitamate grouch. Which would be annoying to all if I actually talked in the morning. But for about forty-five minutes after I get up in the morning I refuse to talk to anyone. If my family attemps to talk to me I refuse to answer with anything but a dirty look. I know, I know its not very civil but in the morning I could care less.

Also in the morning I am sooooo sluggish. It will take me twice as long to complete simple tasks and a hard tasks are impossible. That's why I do anything important before I go to bed. So let's review - mornings are not my thing and now that I think about it I know I'm not the only one.

Watching the Washer

So for fun yesterday I was reading my favorite scenes in 13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson, which by the way is an excellent novel and I highly recommend it. Anyway there is this one scene where Keith and Ginny (if you wanna know who they are you should read the book) are watching the washer machine. They are talking about how ridiculous it is that a washer that had a window, for they can not figure who else would take the time to sit and watch the washer besides them. I am here to tell Ginny and Keith that I too have watched a full washer  run.

You see about five years ago we had just bought a new washer - one with a window. I was determined to watch the whole cycle and I did. Before the machine had arrived I had already got myself pumped up to observe every cycle the washer made. So I came home and I did just that, I sat in front of the washer for 58 minutes straight. After the cycle finished I was dizzy and had a major headache. I could barely read. Luckily

I have yet to watch the washer since then but now I kinda of wanna watch the washer again.

Shoe Story

"Kaya!" my baby sister screams, "What about supper?"

"I'll be back soon," I yell over my shoulder.

I knew I should not have started my run so close to the time when I had to fix dinner. But hearing my mama crying was more then I can take.  Sometimes I wish she would come downstairs and realize that she still has five children that are alive and well.  Jake, my stepdad, agrees with me but mama does not seem to be listening to us. All she does is just stare ahead with that lost look in her eyes.  I shake my head my head and put the thoughts of my mother to the back of my mind. Then I focus on my breathing and my pace and run.

When I get back to my house my baby brother and my baby sister are waiting for me in the kitchen.

"Kaya, look," Levi exclaims, " Ava and me set the table all by ourselves."

"Ava and I," I correct him. "How did you get the dishes?" I look around the kitchen to check for any signs of broken dishes.

"Out of the dishwasher," Ava replies, "We heard it sing so we knew that it was done."

"They were hot so we used the paddy thingys," Levi adds to Ava's explanation.

"Hot pads," I correct him, once more, " Where is Jake and the older boys?" I ask.

"Well," Ava begins as she pulls out her chair at the dinner table, "Daddy is upstairs with Mommy, and Lukie and Si are in the basement watching Toy Story."

"Toy Story?" I raise my eyebrows for I have heard my thirteen and twelve year old brothers complain more then once about having to watch that movie with Levi.

"They were watching it with us but we came upstairs to set the table for you. I'm hungry. Can we have hot dogs?" Levi switches the topic to food once more.

I begin to cook dinner without even bothering to change out of my sweats and sneakers. I'm gross right now I know but I never know when I will have to get out of the house again.  As I cook the hot dogs and toss the salad I listen to Levi and Ava talk about their day.

"Hey Kaya," Levi starts carefully, "Do you think that Mommy will come down to dinner today?"

"Yeah, she should she has not been downstairs since the funeral.

I look at my four year old sister and three year old brother and try to think of how to put what I wish to say to them in words.

But the moment is broken when most of the family joins us at the dinner table lured by the smell of food. Jake comes from the upstairs with puffy eyes, and Simon and Luke come up from the basement as quiet as mice. Normally my brothers being quiet is a blessing but right now the quietness is because of sorrow not peace. We sit down to enjoy our meal of hot dogs and salad. At the food of the table my mother's chair is empty. Just like the nursery above our heads.
